Waltons Quick patty Maker
-
Guess who is getting a Waltons Quick patty Maker. This Guy thats who!
Any tips or tricks I should know about? I also ordered 5.5in x 5.5in Patty Paper.
-
pr0wlunwoof I don’t have any tips but I have been thinking about buying one but my wife always looks at me funny when get something else for meat processing and I just got an order from Walton’s a couple days ago.

pr0wlunwoof Awesome man! They are great when you are making larger quantities of patties and that’s the patty paper I would recommend as well. Let me know if you have any issues with it. Are you using it with a grinder or a stuffer? If I remember correctly it worked surprisingly well with the grinder, way better than stuffing sausage from it.

I am thinking about just buying 80/20 ground and running it through my 25lb mixer with the seasonings. Then use my 15lb stuffer to make the patties. Lay them out on sheet pans and freeze them and then vacuum packaging them 8 to a pack. I think I am going to run 14lbs at a time which should make 42ish burgers or 5 packs.
-
One other thing I am thinking of doing is designing and 3d printing a plate to make 1/4lb burgers and possibly one to do sliders or breakfast sausage patties.
-
pr0wlunwoof That would be amazing, I know someone else is working on this somewhere but I don’t know how they are coming along. We’d obviously love to see whatever you come up with. Your plan sounds good, I hope you’ll be pleased with it! This was one of those things that got discontinued and we just couldn’t do nothing, awesome, simple product that we’ve sold 1,000s of!

Jonathon Yeah I am glad it got back in stock. Just looking at photos I think it should be pretty easy. Will probably take longer to print than it will to design.

Just be aware of the food safety issues with anything 3D printed in contact with food. There is really no way to sterilize an FDM printed item. SLA printing might be viable, but I haven’t researched food safe resin. You might be able to 3D print and then epoxy coat to seal the print.
I printed an adapter collar for the patty maker to fit on my LEM stuffer. It holds the faces of the horn to the output of the stuffer, so isn’t in contact with food. Used it last weekend to do 40 pounds of patties. I did the as above but I vacuum seal 4 patties to a pack.

Valid point about food safety. I will be constructing it out of PETG which from the little research I have done it is considered food safe. Will probably print it with 100% infill and depending on what it looks like either sand it smooth or attempt some acetone smoothing.
-
PETG is not soluble by acetone, only ABS. There are solvents for PETG, but they are pretty nasty. The issue is not really “safe for food contact” but can it be sterilized. A 3D printed single use item is fine. I’ve tried to print air tight vessels and realized just how porous 3D printed items are. You end up with juices and fat pushed into the pores, which then collect bacteria, which then contaminates the next batch.
-
Look a there you are correct ethyl acetate is the compound used to smooth/melt PETG. Your concerns are noted. I will keep them in mind when I venture down the road of modifications. I think if it were something I was going to use indefinitely I would probably have to look at a process similar to this:

Glad there are people smarter than me!

Finally had a moment to take it out of the box.
-
pr0wlunwoof my experience is that the press will make patties of 1/3 lb. ++. Fatties!
-
Not trying to hijack the post but I have been looking at this. Does anyone know if the quick patty maker will fit on a Cabela’s Carnivore #12 grinder?
-
badfire2625 It should. It should fit any #8, #12, #22, or #32 grinder, plus any sausage stuffer with an opening diameter of 2.25". It is pretty much a universal fit.
-
Mine is on the way - Yeah Man!
-
Awesome Austin! Thank you for getting back to me and thank you all for such a great forum. I’m thoroughly enjoying learning so much!

badfire2625
. More like “community”

PapaSop I’m finding that out! So, does my @TeamOrange logo show up when I post because I can’t see it. Still learning the community as well as the art of processing.
